“Oh land of peace, haven of rest
Antigua, your shores are blessed…”
Sounds idyllic doesn’t it?
There are several exceptional calypsos that were composed when Antigua and Barbuda gained independence from Britain in 1981. This one by King Obstinate (real name Paul Richards), beat out the others as my favourite.
The lyrics are uplifting but the music is what I like the most – the heralding of the horns gives a majestic feel while the fife speaks to the beauty and serenity of our beautiful island.
Enjoy it with me today.
